
NESTLE List ways to Tackle Iron Deficiency in Nigeria
Towards tackling under nutrition which is high in Nigeria with a particular focus on Iron deficiency in young children and women of child-bearing age, Nigeria have been urged to consume foods that are rich in macronutrients such as Iron, Vitamin A, Iodine and Zinc as they are essential for growth.
This facts was re-established during a Nestle Scientific Symposium tagged ‘Preventing Iron Deficiency in Nigeria’, a Consultant Paediatrician with LUTH, Prof. Edamisan Temiye, revealed that foods like Ewedu, meat, fish and egg are very rich in essential nutrients that can help tackle Iron deficiency.
The MD/CEO of Nestle Nigeria Plc, Mr. Dharnesh Gordha, said Iron deficiency is the most common form of macronutrients deficiency in Children worldwide and ultimately a significant cause of anemia.
Way Forward: He suggested the use of fortified weaning food, Iron fortified formulas, food naturally rich in bioavailable iron such as meat or the use of supplements.
