IMPORTANCE OF WELLNESS AND SELFCARE IN MAINTAINING A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES
Through FOODDOTCOMACADEMY, I was privileged to attend the Inaugural D’Bio Wellness and Selfcare Summit with the theme: ADVANCING WELLNESS AND SELFCARE-PROSPECTS AND PERSPECTIVES that was convened by a Retired Director and former Acting Director-General of National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dr. Monica Eimunjeze.
The event which was held at the Radisson Blue Hotel, GRA, Ikeja really opened my eyes and questioned my understanding of how intentional we are to our selfcare. According to World Health Organisation (WHO) define Selfcare as the ability of individuals, families and communities to promote their own health, prevent diseases, maintain health and cope with illness with or without the support of health or care worker. At this time, we need to shine a spotlight on a critical aspect of our wellbeing which is MENTAL HEALTH. It is very important that as we navigate, the demands of work with family life, especially with what we are passing through in the country presently, it is essential to recognize that our mental health equally plays a pivotal role to increase productivity, improved job satisfaction, enhanced innovation, reduced absenteeism and overall quality of life. It is important that just as we care for our physical health, we must also nurture our mental wellbeing.
