Food-for-Thought: Representatives okay Bill on Food Security

Reps Okay Bill on Food Security 

  • In a bid to ensure food security and to encourage the local production
    of imported food items, Nigeria, through its House of Representatives on
    Wednesday, 4th March,  ensured the second reading of a bill for an Act
    to provide for the establishment of Food Security Advancement Fund
    (FOSAF).  
     
  • Benefits of the bill are as stated below(a)The country will
    be able to produce far better than any imported items (b)It will provide
    jobs for the citizen (c) It is also a source of revenue to the country
    (d) It will boost agricultural sector of the economy (e) It will make
    available raw material that are necessary for an industry which is very
    crucial to the economic development of the country.
  •  The bill sponsored
    by Kaka Kyari Gujbawa is passed into law will ensure food security,
    local production of imported food items, empowerment of peasant farmers and averting capital outflow
