FOOD SAFETY START WITH YOU
When I read about foodborne illness and waterborne illness that kills mostly children in developing countries, even though I feel scared and angry, the first question that comes to my just like every other myopic mind always is ‘WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT DOING? HOW CAN I PROTECT MY FAMILY?’
But, if we must be sincere to ourselves, we have to go a step forward to ask ourselves the following questions:
IS GOVERNMENT GOING TO DO EVERYTHING FOR US?
IS IT POSSIBLE TO PROTECT MY FAMILY ALONE FROM CONSUMPTION OF UNSAFE FOOD?
Definitely, the answer is NO. But what can we do to protect not only our immediate family from this immediate danger but the entire Nation? I watched over times that if we noticed expired food items in grocery stores, supermarkets or see an unusual movement of rodents in a restaurant, it makes headlines; the various social media immediately come alive with various captions. But, have we ever considered the fact that, unsafe food which could lead to foodborne illness, can also happen from what we do or don’t do in our own kitchens? Pointing accusing fingers at the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and other agencies of government will be unjust?
Bearing in mind that, unless you grow your own food at your backyard, your first contact with the food you eat will likely be at an open market.
What can we do to protect our family from foodborne illness? And, what are the ways to make our food safer? What can you suggest to those in government whose responsibility are to ensure a cleaner environment and safer handling of agricultural products directly farms, free of chemicals and reduce unwholesome practices that endanger the lives of unsuspecting consumers?
We have a responsibility to collectively join hand with all the relevant agencies of government to ACHIEVE a SAFER NATION
Let hear and share opinions on this!
FOOD SAFETY IS NOT LIMITED TO NAFDAC!
FOOD SAFETY IS EVERYBODY’S RESPONSIBILITY!!
