WHAT’S MORE ALARMING THAN POISONOUS PONMO!
FROM THE DIARY OF A FOOD CHAMPION
Again, you will have heard the startling revelation from some cow skin (PONMO) sellers caught by health officers in Sapele, Delta State, Nigeria. These unscrupulous individuals from Sapele market confessed to using embalming fluid to fatten cow skin (PONMO).
According to them, they inject the PONMO with embalming fluid after which they soak the PONMO in water for a period of time. This process fattens the PONMO and makes it look attractive and delicious to unsuspecting buyers. They are currently in police custody in Sapele.
Note embalming fluid is the liquid used to treat a dead body which contains preservative to retard putrefaction. It is a mix of formaldehyde, methanol, ethyl alcohol or ethanol and other chemicals.
Though it pains to admit, I am one of the addicted PONMO lovers but, where do we go from here. We have to educate the consumers on the unwholesome practices going on with the processing and presentation by the processors.
Let us take us take a few minutes to ponder over the questions listed below:
• Why are we so heartless in this country?
• Why do we care less about our fellow human beings?
• Why are we so much in a hurry to acquire material things at the expense of caring for the well beings of our fellow brothers and sisters?
• Why do we constantly sacrifice true love for money?
• Do we truly love one another?
Otherwise; we would not be serving the living with materials meant for the dead. The people doing this are not spirits. They live, eat and dine with us and we should expose them today. Agencies of the government can’t fight this war alone, we have to join them.
Join us at FoodpreneurNews to expose all illegal slaughter houses (abattoir) where this unwholesome practice is still ongoing and we will follow it up with the government agencies concerned.
