MEMOIRS OF A FOOD ENGINEERING STUDENT- (2)
INTERVIEW WITH A FOOD CHAMPION
Glory is to God, as I recently concluded my Industrial attachment (IT). Industrial attachment is a prerequisite for the award of a B.Sc in my Faculty (Technology) and it involved spending a stipulated period in a food related establishment after our third year so as to gain practical experience and needed interaction with the Food industry. This period exposed me to the nitty gritty of the course, an exposure that could never be gotten in the classroom or an institution. I was fortunate and had real fun during this period so much that I cannot wait to graduate.
I started understanding what it really means to be a food engineer; to recognize a problem, design a solution either by simulation or prototype, fabricate and manufacture a physical manifestation of the solution, test and ensure that the solution eliminates the problem totally and earn money as a result.
I also got to understand that we in the food industry are tasked with coming up with alternative, cheaper, wholesome and easily accessible foods through the concept of product development and sensory evaluation to ensure that the public receives the product wholeheartedly.
